Welcome to Off-Leash, a series spotlighting Biche’s community of tastemaking dogs and humans.
“Two years ago, I finally decided to honor my inner child," Laëtitia Damonsing says. Her modus operandi? Getting a dog.
“I’ve wanted a dog for as long as I can remember, but growing up with immigrant parents, it was always a firm no,” she says. A second-generation Mauritian-Canadian creative director, Laëtitia is the founder of Dodo Bazaar, a vintage clothing, accessories, and homeware boutique that harkens to her heritage.
"The name draws from the dodo bird, an emblem of Mauritius, rarity, and what deserves to be preserved,” she says.
Though Laëtitia's entry to dog parenthood was delayed, it was well worth the wait. Her two-year-old Cockapoo, Douglas, has been a “deeply healing” addition to her life.
“He has brought so much joy and love into our home,” she says. "He is a very good mirror of me and my partner’s personalities: affectionate, goofy, and energetic, but also good at just chilling. Sometimes, I swear there is a little boy living inside his body.”
Ahead, we chat with Laëtitia about her love of thrift stores and Douglas’ appreciation for a good pair of jeans.
