Welcome to Off-Leash, a series spotlighting Biche’s community of tastemaking dogs and humans.
If it weren't for her dog, designer Susan Korn may never have launched the bags that catapulted her brand, Susan Alexandra, to success. When she rescued her feisty Chihuahua mix, Pigeon, in 2016, she was mostly making jewelry. But during a walk one day, Pigeon began pulling her toward a storefront. Inside, they met the woman who would begin producing Susan’s signature beaded bags, now beloved by downtown New York's fashion set.
In the 10 years since Susan adopted Pigeon, dogs have remained central to her brand. In addition to selling a collection of sparkly wearables for dogs and dog enthusiasts (think: leashes, collars, and custom pet portrait necklaces), she uses New York Fashion Week as an opportunity to promote local animal rescues. In 2024 and 2025, she teamed up with fellow dog-loving designer Rachel Antonoff to stage runway shows featuring adoptable pups from Animal Haven and Muddy Paws.
Susan’s love of animals, paired with her playful design ethos, made a Biche collaboration a no-brainer. Hot off the launch of the Biche x Susan Alexandra Treat Pouchlette — a leash accessory that holds treats, waste bags, and other walk essentials — we chatted with Susan about Pigeon’s 5+ beds, their adorable morning ritual, and her upcoming perfume.
